Reasons the Samsung Galaxy Book3 Ultra could be touch screen
We know that Samsung have been working on a new Super AMOLED display, which reportedly will be finding its way into new Galaxy Book devices.
This screen apparently has a 16:10 aspect ratio, 3K resolution, is capable of an impressive 120Hz maximum refresh rate, and finally comes with new touch screen functionality.
This incorporates technology found in the Samsung Galaxy phones, using technology that removes the need for a separate layer to allow touchscreen functionality. This new tech is called On Cell Touch AMOLED (OCTA), and it embeds touch sensors into the OLED panel itself, allowing for thinner displays.
Leaked specifications seem to suggest that the Galaxy Book3 Ultra will have a 16:10, 3K, 120Hz AMOLED screen, which would align with all the other specs of this panel.
Reasons the Samsung Galaxy Book3 Ultra might not be touch screen
Despite the above, it could be that the touchscreen variant of this new technology is limited to the 360 variants of the Galaxy Book 3 with 2-in-1 functionality (allowing them to transition between the form-factor of a laptop to a tablet), which does not include the Ultra.
In total we are expecting five different laptop reveals: the Samsung Galaxy Book3, Samsung Galaxy Book3 Pro, Samsung Galaxy Book3 360, Samsung Galaxy Book3 Pro 360, and the new Samsung Galaxy Book3 Ultra entry.
Historically only the 360 variants of Galaxy Books have come with touch screens. Samsung could be changing this up this year, at least as far as the Ultra variant is concerned, but until February 1st we won’t know for sure.
