We’ve decided to compare RTX 4070 Ti Super vs PS5 to see how big of a difference this 40 series refresh makes when comparing PC vs PS5. It shouldn’t come as a surprise to too many people that the 4070 Ti Super outpowers the PS5 in terms of GPU performance, but there’s plenty to compare between the two – despite being two different pieces of hardware. The PS5 is a few years old at this point, though it still remains a popular console – even for new buyers, especially with the release of the PS5 Slim. Unfortunately the slim doesn’t have an big effect on the performance itself, so it won’t come any closer to the 4070 Ti Super than the OG model. The Super rendition of the 4070 Ti however does allow for some improved specs; the standard RTX 4070 vs PS5 was already a relatively easy win for the GPU, as was the RTX 4060 vs PS5, but the convenience of the PS5 is still going to be hard to beat.

The PS5 is of course an all-in-one package, while the 4070 Ti Super is a dedicated (discreet) graphics card. So, we’re going to compare the GPU in the PS5 to get a good grasp of how they compare. The PS5’s graphics are based on AMD’s RDNA 2.0 architecture, while this 40 series card is on Ada Lovelace, which is newer and much better overall. The 4070 Ti Super beats the PS5 in just about every regard, now matching its 16GB of VRAM instead of the 12GB we saw on the vanilla 4070 Ti.
With plenty more shaders, a higher clock speed, and larger amount of bandwidth, the dedicated GPU will clearly outperform the PS5 in the graphics department. However, the higher 285W TDP means it will run much hotter – not too much of a problem though if you have good PC cooling.
Starting off with the performance of the PS5, which comes with some limits. The PS5 is mainly designed for either 4K at 60FPS or 1440p at 120FPS gameplay, though some well optimized/lightweight titles may be able to push up to 4K at 120FPS, the maximum output of this console (which works great with an HDMI 2.1 TV or monitor). As with everything, performance differs quite a lot from game to game but you can opt for either Fidelty mode for best visuals or Performance mode for higher framerates, which will likely involve some upscaling. Even 8K gaming is advertised for this console, but this is extremely limited and not worth considering.
Looking back over to the Nvidia GPU, this card works very well in both 4K and 1440p. We reviewed the RTX 4070 Ti Super and ran some benchmarks to see how well it performs. Competitive titles such as CS2 can average 151 FPS at 4K and 297 FPS at 1440p, especially when paired with a powerful processor like the Ryzen 9 7950X in our testing rig. On the flip side, Cyberpunk 2077 at ultra settings drops this down to 44 FPS at 4K, or just 24 FPS with ray tracing on. The important thing to factor in though with these 40-series cards is that with DLSS 3 tech involved, framerates can be boosted much higher than the raw performance values on show here.

A discreet graphics card and console are very different in what they offer you at face value. The PS5 is an all-in-one package which is very cost effective if you just want a gaming machine to play games at 4K or 1440p – or 1080p if you want best performance levels at the more modest resolution. If you’re going to buy an RTX 4070 Ti Super, then you’ll need all the other components that make up a gaming PC, which is large amount of added expense. If you just need to replace your GPU though, then this is less of a burden on your wallet, so you aren’t also left looking for the best PSU for 4070 Ti Super or best CPU for RTX 4070 Ti Super for example.
The PS5 retails for up to $499.99 for the standard edition with disc drive, while the digital edition currently costs $449.00 for the newer Slim model. The Slim model has practically replaced the original – offering the same level of performance while taking up less space and a decent increase in storage space. The RTX 4070 Ti Super MSRP sits at $799, which means you’re paying a whole lot more for the GPU alone, especially with custom AIBs generally costing more.
Deciding on which you should buy really depends on your situation here. There is of course a massive different in price between building a gaming PC with the 4070 Ti Super and simply picking up a PS5. This GPU alone costs over $200 than the PlayStation, making it a hefty investment, even if you don’t need to upgrade your other components alongside it. If you’re a PC gaming enthusiast, then the 4070 Ti Super is a worthwhile investment if you’re looking for a card that’ll last a long time – potentially letting you skip on the upcoming 50-series. This is great if you’re looking for impressive performance in the latest AAA titles, or if you’re a competitive gamer or streamer looking for the smoothest gaming experience possible.
For more casual players though that just want enjoy a singleplayer experience on their 4K TV, the PS5 is the best option here. The console also works great for multiplayer titles such as Call of Duty given its well-optimized performance for smooth 120 FPS gaming – especially on a 120Hz TV. Given the widespread use of cross-platform gaming these days, the online experience is great on many titles too, even if you want to play with a buddy on PC. The PS5 also benefits from some massively popular exclusive games such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 or God of War Ragnarok. However, these may make their way to PC in future if you don’t mind waiting.
We can safely say that the RTX 4070 Ti Super is much more powerful than the PS5 in terms of graphics performance. This isn’t really a surprise to us though given the difference in specs and our own benchmark tests. For someone that’s looking for exceptional gaming performance that will exceed that of the PS5, building a 4070 Ti Super PC will give you that. However, the cost is much higher and the building process is more complicated than simply buying a PlayStation 5 and jumping right into your favorite games.
The popular games console suits more casual gameplay, but that doesn’t mean you should rule it out for competitive FPS either. Anyone looking to make the most of their 4K TV should probably opt for the PS5 for a cost-effective gaming rig. But if you’re thinking about grabbing the 4070 Ti Super, then make sure you have suitable components to back it up!
