Nvidia’s RTX 5070 could be right around the corner, and yet not much is known about the series in the grand scheme of things. The 70 suffix GPUs from Nvidia have served as a fantastic middle-high ground GPU for many years, often contending with some of the best AMD GPUs. If you are looking for a new GPU then the RTX 5070 release date might be of interest. When it comes to the mid-range cards, there are some good options out there so you might be looking forward to the Blackwell series to see what’s next. With the usual cycle, there’s always something to look forward to.
The Ada series might not tickle your fancy right now, and that’s okay! We’re here to look at what the next series has to offer. The RTX 50 series is likely going to be yet another improvement over what the current options are. So what might the RTX 4070 successor look like? Even with the 4080 Super, the next-gen will still likely top it and provide something newer. In that case, we see what might be upcoming with the leaks and rumors on it.
The latest leaks suggest that the RTX 5070 will have a 20W increase in power demand over the RTX 4070. This information comes to us via VideoCardz, which also has the power demands of all the other 50 series GPUs. Spoiler alert, your energy bills might be going up if you plan on including the 50 series in your PC.
RTX 5070 GPU release date window expectation
Looking at the 5070 release date, we can see the previous model’s timelines to see when the card might hit the shelves. For the other 70 models, we get the releases we have had:
- RTX 4070 – April 2023
- RTX 3070 – October 2020
- RTX 2070 – October 2018
Although previously we have seen the cards released in October every two years, things changed with the Ada series. There we saw only the RTX 4090 being released initially, with the rest of the lineup coming much later. This means we can expect the RTX 5070 release date to be either October 2024 or Q1 in 2025. Though the strange release pattern could be attributed to Covid, and not necessarily the schedule that Nvidia now wants to follow.
Rumors from Moore’s Law is Dead say the next generation of Blackwell chips should be ready to launch by Q4 2024, in line with previous releases. But depending on how AMD’s RDNA 4 is projected to do, it might just wait till after January 2025 for CES. This will give AMD a massive uncontested window over the holiday period to sell its RDNA 4-based GPUs If it is planning a release this side of Christmas.
There’s a lot of noise about various other 50 series SKUs, but nothing in particular about the 5070. This Tweet from MEGAsizeGPU suggests that the GPUs may not be ready to launch by the time September is done, just that the designs will be finalized.
If this is true for both the 5080 and the 5090, then there’s an argument to support the 5070 falling into the same category. It’s unlikely that Nvidia will release the 5070 standalone, if that were to happen to any GPU, it’d probably be the 5080. Although again, these are just rumors, none of this could be true at all.
RTX 5070 price prediction
For the pricing, we can also look at previous iterations. In general, the RTX 40 series has been expensive, especially with the general look of the market as well. So it can really go in either direction when it comes to the 50 series. But let’s take a look at previous offerings.
- RTX 4070/4070 Super – $599
- RTX 3070 – $499
- RTX 2070 – $499
In the latest spec, the price has risen with the RTX 4070 by $100 from previous generations. But that’s not as bad as expected as the RTX 4070 Ti and 4080 both increased significantly. Therefore, for the RTX 5070 price, we expect it to cost $599 or more up to a potential $699.
Nvidia RTX 5070 specs leaks
Starting off with the basics, the next generation of GPUs is further improving on the Ada Lovelace architecture with the use of the TSMC 3nm process node. That means it will have a higher density on the processors allowing more transistors in a smaller die and therefore more CUDA cores can fit in it which the 5070 may utilize.
Specifications (rumors) | RTX 5070 |
---|---|
GPU Name | GB205 |
Base Clock | 2,235 MHz |
Boost Clock | 2,520 MHz |
Memory Clock | 2,500 MHz 5 Gbps effective |
Shading Units | 6,400 |
RT Cores | 50 |
Bus Interface | PCIe 5.0 x16 |
Memory Size | 12 GB |
Bandwidth | 120.0 GB/s |
Memory Bus | 192 bit |
Furthermore, it may utilize the newer GDDR7 VRAM. It would allow it for faster memory bandwidth in general as long as Nvidia provides a big enough bus and clock speeds for it to get the most out of it. Of course, the flagship model, the expected 5090 is rumored to a 512-bit but the lower tiers will cut it down. We may also see improved power consumption if the efficiency is to improve.
In general, we can also expect some more technological advancements over time. With the likes of tensor cores, cache, ray tracing cores, and such improving in power. Along with the efficiency and any AI and frame generation focus’ that Nvidia may focus on next in the consumer-friendly choices. But certainly, it will provide a good mid-range card for your PC, as long as the price and value are more suitable.
Will there be an RTX 5070?
Yes, it’s most likely there will be an RTX 5070. We already know, Nvidia is planning on releasing the RTX 50 series GPUs, named Blackwell, and as such the 5070 is expected in that range.
How much will the RTX 5070 cost?
Looking back previously the 70 model cards cost $499, but the 4070 raised that to $599. As such we estimate the RTX 5070 will cost in the range of $599-699. Prices never come down, do they?
